Game of Thrones, episode five

Last night was the episode five of "Game of Thrones."  Below is a list of this week's winners and losers.  Be warned there are spoilers ahead!
Winners

The King’s Council—Some of the most important characters in “Game of Thrones” were notably absent this week, but The King’s Council was featured front and center.  Though, most of the plot is driven by the deadly passive-aggressive battle between the Lannisters and the Starks, and the looming threat of a Dothraki invasion, it’s clear the

Bloodshed—Episode five had more blood, gore and mutilation than any of the previous four episodes.  When The Mountain lost at the King’s Hand Tournament his reaction wasn’t that of a level-headed vanquished opponent, he decapitated his horse with one swoop of his broadsword.  On the road to The Vail, Catelynn Stark, her guard and Tyrion Lannister were attacked by a band of thieves.  Though most of the guards were murdered, Tyrion Lannister proved he’s very different from his murderous siblings by repeatedly bashing in the head of Catelynn Stark’s attacker.  At the end of episode five Jamie Lannister knifes Ned Stark’s guard in the eye in an attempt to get information from Ned on his brother’s whereabouts.

HBO GO—The new iPad app is nothing short of awesome, giving HBO subscribers access to every original show aired on the premium cable channel.  According to the post-show preview, immediately after next week’s episode airs HBO GO users will be able to watch Episode 7 on their iPads.  If that doesn’t get people to download the app, what will?

Losers
King Robert—King Robert is a drunken mess driving his kingdom into debt from because of his depression and self-loathing.  After finding out young Daenerys Targaryen is pregnant with Khal Drogo’s son, he ordered a hit be put out on her life.  Robert’s ever virtuous and moral-bound BFF, Ned Stark told him that he had to resign his post as the King’s Hand if the assassination was carried out.  When his evil wife Circe Lannister comes to comfort him about the loss of his best friends, they discuss the state of their marriage.  King Robert admits that he hasn’t been happy since Ned’s younger sister was murdered by the Mad King years ago.

The Starks— The eldest Stark son has barely had any screen time.  Jon Snow, Ned’s bastard son has resigned himself to a life on the wall guarding the rest of the kingdoms from winter Zombies.  Sansa Stark is betrothed to Prince Joffrey.  Ayra Stark is basically raising herself in King’s Landing, but learning the art of sword fighting along the way. Bran Stark is paralyzed from the waist down, and abandoned by his parents in Winterfell.  Ned Stark just broke up with his bestie, King Robert and got speared in the leg while fighting Jamie Lannister.  Lastly, Catelynn Stark arrived at The Vail to find her sister breastfeeding her 8 year old nephew on the throne.  Families are weird like that.

Targaryens, Dothrakis and the Wall—Some of the series most captivating characters were missing in episode five.
