LIVE BLOGGING: Oscars

Oscars season is officially over.  Now what am I going to write about?  I think I'll go into hibernation until June when the indies start hitting theaters.

11:42pm: Total run time: 3h and 12m.  Overall, the show was kind of a bore.  No major upsets, and nothing  shocking on stage.
11:40pm: PS22 singing "Over the Rainbow" pretty adorable.
11:35pm: Best Picture Oscar goes to: "The King's Speech." Oscar Predix: 17 for 21.
11:30pm: How great is the "Jurassic Park" theme?
11:25pm: Best Actor Oscar goes to: Colin Firth. He was REALLY good in "Single Man" last year.  But I'll allow the win this year.  Oscar Predix: 16 for 20.
11:14pm: Best Actress Oscar goes to: Natalie Portman.  You already know my thoughts. Below are some examples of her previous work.  Oscar Predix: 15 for 19.

11:11pm: Does anyone else think James Franco might be high?
11:03pm: Best Director Oscar goes to: Tom Hooper!  Surprise of the night! Oscar Predix: 14 for 18.
10:48pm: Randy Newman says he wants to be good television, but he slows down the program down year after year with his performances. He is awesome.  He's someone that I'd be ok with getting the EGOT.  All he only needs a Tony.
10:46pm: Best Original Song Oscar goes to: "Toy Story 3." Oscar Predix: 14 for 17.
10:44pm: If Gwyneth Paltro somehow gets a Grammy next year for Country Strong, she'll be half way to an EGOT.  What a travesty.
10:43pm: Jennifer Hudson's boobs look weird.
10:35pm: Best Film Editing Oscar goes to: "The Social Network." Oscar Predix: 13 for 16.
10:33pm: Best Visual Effects Oscar goes to: "Inception." Oscar Predix: 12 for 15.
10:32pm: Jude Law has best joke of the night, Re: Robert Downey's Jr's 2001 hotel room bust.
10:26pm: The Academy has confirmed that Melissa Leo's on air swear was the first in Oscar history.  I like her less and less.
10:22pm: Best Documentary Oscar goes to: "Inside Job" Oscar Predix: 11 for 14.
10:21pm: Will Banksy win?  If so, will he accept in a mask?
10:20pm: I hope Oprah announces the winner of Best Doc with her signature scream.
10:18pm: Auto-tuned songs beats last year's interpretive dance.  Just barely.
10:16pm: I really want to see "God of Love" after that acceptance speech.  Luke Matheny was genuinely surprised and gave such a heartfelt speech.
10:15pm: Best Live Action Short Oscar goes to: "God of Love."
10:13pm: Best Documentary Short Oscar goes to: "Strangers No More."
10:11pm: So far the show has been pretty predictable.  An underdog needs to win, or someone crazy needs to storm the stage, like SOY BOMB.
10:06pm: Love Mandy Moore's dress during her Original Song performance.  Her pitchy singing... not so much.
10:05pm Since when does Chuck from NBC sing??
10:03pm: "The King's Speech" is currently running 1 for 7.  They only have Directing, Editing, Best Actor and Best Picture left to take home gold.
10:02pm: President Obama chooses As Time Goes by from "Casablanca" as his favorite movie song.
9:59pm: Best Achievement in Costume Design goes to: "Alice in Wonderland" Oscar Predix: 10 for 13.
9:55pm: Best Achievement in Makeup Oscar goes to: "The Wolfman" Oscar Predix: 10 for 12.  And they get called out by Cate Blanchett for being gross.  What an honor.
9:53pm: Half way through the show, most looking forward to the Best Documentary and whether Banksy is at the ceremony.
9:49pm: Best Sound Editing Oscar goes to: "Inception." Oscar Predix: 9 for 11.
9:47pm: Best Sound Mixing Oscar goes to: "Inception." Oscar Predix: 8 for 10. BRAAAAAHM!!!
9:44pm: Best Original Score Oscar goes to: "The Social Network." Oscar Predix: 7 for 9.
9:41pm: Am I a huge movie nerd if I adore the THX sound at the start of movies?
9:34pm: Let's all remember that Christian Bale was in "Newsies" and "Little Women."

9:33pm: Christian Bale jokes about dropping many F-bombs in the past, so he will not pull a Melissa Leo tonight.  This is going to be the ongoing joke of the night.
9:30pm: Best Supporting Actor Oscar goes to: Christian Bale. Oscar Predix: 6 for 8.
9:27pm: Best Foreign Film Oscar goes to Denmark's "In a Better World." Oscar Predix: 5 for 7.
9:26pm: Why exactly is Russell Brand at the Oscars?  This is more perplexing than Miley Cyrus presenting a couple of years ago.
9:25pm: James Franco as Marilyn Monroe.  That is all.

9:23pm: Gwyneth Paltrow gets accolades for her singing, but Anne Hathaway actually has a great voice.  For some high-minded advice go to Gwen's website: GOOP.
9:18pm: Best Original Screenplay Oscar goes to: "The King's Speech." Oscar Predix: 4 for 6.
9:16pm: And to his daughter's guinea pig.
9:15pm: Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar goes to: "The Social Network." Oscar Predix: 3 for 5. Yay Aaron Sorkin, shout out to "Network."
9:13pm: Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem pull of the white tux look quite well. Charming, yet creepy at the same time.

9:11pm: That is the most complicated cat food commercial I've ever seen.  Oh Fancy Feast.
9:06pm: Best Animated Feature Oscar goes to: "Toy Story 3!" Oscar Predix: 2 for 4. Jesus H, I love that movie!
9:05pm: While I love the Oscars, the Golden Globes are so much more entertaining with everyone drunk and Ricky Gervais there to make fun of the celebs in the audience.
9:04pm: Best Animated Short Oscar goes to: "The Lost Thing."  No idea.  Didn't see any of the shorts.
9:00pm: Why did Melissa Leo just steal Kirk Douglas's cane?
8:56pm: Best Supporting Actress Oscar goes to: Melissa Leo.  Blah.  I wish she'd stop acting surprised and totally speechless.  Her "For Your Consideration" ads make the entire speech seem so contrived. Oscar Predix: 1 for 3.
8:51pm: Kirk Douglas is still alive?  And I love him.
8:47pm: Cinematography Oscar goes to: "Inception." Oscar Predix: 1 for 2.
8:45pm: Art Direction Oscar goes to: "Alice in Wonderland." Oscar Predix: 1 for 1
8:43pm: FOLLOWED BY TITANIC TRIBUTE!?!!  I can't handle this.
8:41pm: GONE WITH THE WIND TRIBUTE!
8:38pm: Hathaway's dress and makeup so fabulous.

8:33pm: Love Anne Hathaway and James Franco's open!  Especially, Franco as the weird mountain man doctor from "True Grit."  Alec Baldwin Inception is hilarious.
8:30pm Show starts with Best Picture montage to "Hall of the Mountain King."  Just like my favorite scene from "The Social Network."
